What is PAT testing?

Do I need an electrical PAT test?

Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by combination of visual examination and testing. Although not compulsory, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition.

PAT testing for landlords properties, hotels and shops is recommended annually. However portable tools used in harsher environments such as building sites, should be tested more often.

How much will PAT testing cost?

PAT testing prices

I offer a small-scale PAT testing service for small businesses, hotels and landlords. For this there is a minimum charge (£50). Rates are as follows:

  • Up to 25 items £50
  • Up to 50 items £1.75 per item
  • Up to 75 items £1.50 per item
  • Up to 100 items £1.25 per item
  • 200+ items £1.00 per item

If you have a few items, such as power tools, music and band equipment, you are welcome to drop off it at my premises. I can usually test it while you wait. This is more economical for small numbers of items and saves you the call out and minimum charge.
